Meeting Peter

Normally we highlight our external colleagues. This time we are also taking a look behind the scenes at our office. Time for an introduction to our Peter, Recruitment Consultant at TailorMinds.

Career for TailorMinds

My background is not in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry but in logistics. In Haarlem I studied for a Bachelor in Logistics & Economics and my first job was at Schiphol Airport at a forwarder focused on air and sea freight. I worked there for almost 5 years and held various positions within different departments. After this period I was ready for another challenge and came in contact with a recruitment agency. This agency would help me find another job however they asked if I would be interested in joining them. Working in recruitment was new to me but turned out to be an interesting challenge. I could put the knowledge I had gained within air freight to good use. With this organization I worked for three years at Schiphol Airport and in Rotterdam. Then I came into contact with a recruitment agency in Hoofddorp that focused on positions and vacancies within the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries. These were mainly technical positions. Eventually I worked at this organization for eleven years. In December 2020, I joined TailorMinds after being put in touch through a former colleague. Since almost 4 years I have held the position of Consultant.

Motivation and inspiration

What I like most is being in contact with people of different nationalities, backgrounds and personalities. Every situation and every person is different and it remains a challenge to make the right match, but also to build a personal bond. Especially when we work with highly skilled migrants who leave home and hearth behind, it is very satisfying when we can make a difference in finding a challenging job but also in making a step towards a new life in the Netherlands. The great thing is that at TailorMinds we all do this together as a team. We help each other where necessary and try to inspire each other by sharing experiences and motivating each other.

Proud

Some processes need more time a attention than others. For example, for one colleague we had not yet found a suitable project at the time the employment contract took effect. This colleague was still spending some time in the country of origin, and after arriving in the Netherlands, finding a suitable place to live was not yet successful either. In the first week, our colleague stayed in various B&Bs and hotels. In the end, luckily everything fell into place, finding suitable housing came almost at the same time as starting on a new project. It made me proud that also because of a joint effort we were able to successfully complete the process.
