Last Saturday, 26 April, The Netherlands was once again decked out in orange to celebrate King’s Day. This national holiday is all about the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. Since 2013, we have been celebrating King’s Day on or around 27 April. Every year, this day brings the whole country together in a unique atmosphere of celebration and solidarity.<\/p>\n
On King’s Day, the Netherlands is buzzing with activities. Flea markets are set up by young and old where second-hand items, homemade art and delicacies are sold. Musicians and street performers add extra atmosphere and energy to the towns and villages. In addition, festivals, sporting events and street parties take place throughout the country.<\/p>\n
As usual, King Willem-Alexander and his family visited a Dutch city, this year it was Doetinchem’s turn. They enjoyed a warm welcome, full of performances, games, local traditions and personal encounters with residents. The involvement of the royal family makes King’s Day a day of national pride and togetherness every year.<\/p>\n
For our external colleagues, King’s Day offered a special opportunity to feel even more connected to The Netherlands and its traditions. Many celebrated this holiday for the first time and were impressed by the good atmosphere.<\/p>\n
