Administrative Assistant Corrie has been assisting TailorMinds’ Consultants with secretarial, commercial and administrative tasks since 2013. Now that she is gradually approaching retirement, it is a good time to look back.
Corrie’s background
After completing my MBO education, I started working as an Administrative Assistant at a metal processing company in the west of the country in 1977. At that time, we used mechanical typewriters with red and black ribbons, which were soon replaced by electric typewriters with balls. I worked at this company for over 20 years in various administrative positions and experienced the transition from typewriters to computers, with the help of various courses and training programmes.
In 2000, I changed jobs and started working at the Chamber of Commerce. I worked there as a Sales Support Assistant and Internal Account Manager until we moved to Drenthe in early 2006 due to my husband’s work in that region.
From 2007 till 2011, I performed administrative tasks at a real estate agency, until mid-2013, when Arjan approached me to ask if I would like to provide administrative support due to an increase in work at what was then ProjectKwadraat.
Since then, I have enjoyed many wonderful years as part of the TailorMinds team and have been able to provide support with all administrative tasks.
What are your current responsibilities in this role?
Within the financial administration, I process purchase invoices and payments. I also monitor the relocation budgets of our expats and handle the payroll for internal employees. When someone is ill or on leave, I support the entire financial administration and thus remain involved in the entire process.
Working remotely
Thanks to improvements in fibre optic internet, I was able to do a lot of my work online from home. Nevertheless, I also went to the office regularly for meetings, to meet colleagues or for team-building days.
During my time at TailorMinds, this gave me the opportunity to continue developing my skills in systems and software, where I was given plenty of scope and which I still enjoy to this day.
Now that my colleague Leonie has taken over many of my tasks with great skill over the past few years, I can take things a little easier and start thinking about my approaching retirement.
I am currently working fewer hours and have a more supervisory role, supporting colleagues in the Back Office when they are ill and during the holiday period.
