In August, we announced the arrival of our new colleague Mohamad. At that time, he was expected to start work in October. However, this process took a different turn due to formalities in Turkey. Fortunately, that is all behind us now and we are busy facilitating his onboarding.
Exit permit
When we started the visa process for Mohamad and his family in August, everything seemed to be going according to plan. There were a few extra steps to take in terms of legalizing documents in his country of origin, but Mohamad resolved these fairly quickly. This allowed us to submit the visa applications, which were also quickly approved by the IND. Then we encountered a new formality for us: an ‘exit permit’.
An exit permit is for refugees in Turkey. Generally speaking, this is a permit issued by the Turkish authorities allowing someone under the Temporary Protection (TP) regime or another residence status to leave Turkey. It allows them to travel temporarily to their country of origin or a third country without automatically losing their protection in Turkey.
It turned out that this permit could only be issued after the entry permit (MVV) had been issued by the Dutch embassy in Ankara. Due to high demand, this turned out to take several weeks longer than expected. This meant a delay of several weeks in the process.
Change of plans
The postponement of the start date was obviously not desirable for our client, but it was understandable. This led to changes in the plans, which meant that Mohamad’s project could go ahead after all. In the end, we were able to welcome him and his family to the Netherlands!
We have now taken many steps in the onboarding process for him and his family. We have viewed many houses for accommodation, made appointments with the IND and the bank for the necessary formalities, and our client is ready to get started.
There will be many more matters, big and small, to come in the process that TailorMinds is supporting him with. For now, we would like to thank Mohamad and our client for their flexibility in this process. We look forward to working with Mohamad and the challenges ahead. We wish him every success!
