Today the manifesto for highly skilled migrants will be published at www.tekenvoortalent.nl. It aims to address the need for highly skilled migrants supporting the Dutch economy. The manifesto warns that if the politicians’ plans continue, this will have major consequences for our knowledge economy. Read the manifesto, the content speaks for itself. We would like to explain why we support this.
The Dutch market for highly skilled professionals
TailorMinds is active in technically complex sectors such as the pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries, as well as contributing to the energy transition. In all these sectors, there is a scarcity of highly skilled engineers. In the nearly 15 years of our history, we have arranged more than 100 emigrations, especially in the past 10 years. We are also a (temporary) employer for highly skilled migrants already living in the Netherlands and looking for another job.
From cold feet to dire necessity
From 2011 to 2015, we guided a few emigration processes per year. In the years after, the number of projects with highly skilled migrants increased significantly. Among our relations, we noticed growing despondency because there were hardly any professionals to be found. Also, a professional looking for the next challenge often had several application processes running simultaneously. As a result, a lot of energy was lost in recruitment processes that did not increase the chances of finding new colleagues. The ‘pain’ increased and this led to more enquiries and orientation conversations on the subject of emigration combined with work. We saw that relationships went from cold feet to dire necessity.
Emigration and professional guidance truly is a profession
Unfortunately, the Dutch language does not have a positive equivalent for “marriage of convenience”, but this is what we as temporary employers do for highly skilled migrants. Where finding the suitable job is perhaps the easiest part. Being a knowledge holder of the IND’s regulations is no mean feat. Besides arranging suitable housing, we take care of the organization of many formalities. This allows someone to participate in society and enjoy free time after work without worries. In addition, we realize good guidance in consultation with the client. Here, the social onboarding is essential and largely determines the success of an emigration. We get a lot of energy from this and enjoy making real connections between professionals and our relations.
Sign the manifesto for a strong knowledge economy
The plans against which the manifesto was drafted are obviously not good for TailorMinds. But more important is that these plans are a threat to our knowledge economy.
If you already have experience in attracting new colleagues from abroad, don’t forget to sign the manifesto.
