Interview Sander Pupella

After having an interview with one of our Consultants, Peter Debrichy, a few months ago, we thought it would be nice to do another interview. This time with our Operations Manager Sander Pupella.

The background to his career

I followed my Marketeer training through the Sport Marketing course at the Hogeschool Rotterdam. At that time, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Also, I could combine it with my top sport. During my minor, I did Digital Marketing. For that, I was looking for an internship company where I could write a marketing plan based on their Google data. ProjectKwadraat gave me this opportunity to write the plan. The recommendations focused on increased visibility online. After completing my studies, I started looking for a job where I could best combine my work and top-level sports career. I saw on LinkedIn a blog from ProjectKwadraat, an activity I had recommended during my internship. At the bottom of the blog, they said they were looking for a Consultant. Despite not matching the conditions and requirements, I decided to respond anyway. However, I did hold an HBO degree and was already well acquainted with the organisation. I was already working as a Junior Consultant a month later. This is now seven and a half years ago.

How does a working day look like for you?

I usually start at the office between 7 and 7.30 am. It’s quieter then, there are few phone calls and clients don’t call me yet. Also most colleagues are not there yet. This always allows me to do administration and make preparations for the day. During the day, it depends on how many calls you get regarding requests or candidates who need you. It is usually a mix of internal and external matters. Internally, I am the main contact for colleagues when it comes to things like matching rates and salaries, formalising projects or account management. But also when it comes to personal matters. Externally, we then talk about our colleagues working on projects. There, I am responsible for matters such as the 30% rule a SCC, or workplace inspections that need to be arranged, sometimes, of course, for involvement in personal life events. Around half past four, I close my laptop. I then spend just under an hour making phone calls in the car and then I get home. In the evening, I often check my e-mail, I answer anything that I can answer briefly, things that require more attention I answer the next morning.

What are your objectives within your role now?

My objective as Operations Manager is to manage the ongoing projects in a financially sound manner with a strong team of colleagues. Personally, my objective is to have well-run projects and happy colleagues through decisive and personal action.
