Shane arrived

Shane arrived

Yesterday we welcomed our new colleague from South Africa at Schiphol Airport: Shane. As communicated in early January, he will soon start working as a Validation & Compliance Engineer at one of our relations. For now it is important to arrange the last formalities for him.

Arrival in the Netherlands

For Shane, it was the first time he had experienced such a long-haul flight and therefore had some slight tension prior to it. Fortunately, things had been gone through and coordinated beforehand to ensure that the arrival in the Netherlands went according to plan. Once in the Netherlands, it was clear to Shane: it is a lot colder and darker in the Netherlands than in his home country.

Almost with all foreign colleagues, we visit our office in Zoetermeer to meet the rest of the team at the office. In addition, we can immediately go through and sign a number of administrative forms. Because of the long journey, we decide to give the expats a rest afterwards and pick up where we left off the next day.

Formalities in the Netherlands

At the moment we are busy arranging a number of formalities. One of the most important and often the most difficult is finding a suitable home. Factors such as commuting distance, budget and the housing market make for a challenging combination. We have not yet managed to secure a home for him but have several options running. In the meantime, temporary accommodation has been arranged for him.

Once successful, then we can move on to registering within the municipality, opening a Dutch bank account and signing up for health insurance. Next Monday, Shane will start in his new position. We wish him good luck with this and with the further challenges in the Netherlands!
