Update COVID-19 and recruitment

The Dutch cabinet considers it responsible to take the fourth step in the opening plan earlier. Initially, the cabinet did not want to take these steps until 21 July. Vaccination is going at a rapid pace. The RIVM and OMT see this reflected in the infection figures in The Netherlands and in the decreasing number of people admitted to hospital with COVID-19. These numbers are now dropping. That is why many doors will be open from June 26, where the one and a half meters away will remain the all-determining standard. What does this mean for working and (international recruitment) in The Netherlands?

Recruitment in The Netherlands

Employees are given more space to come to the office. Those who now work from home will be allowed to spend half of their time at the office from June 26. The one and a half meter standard will also be maintained there. The mouth cap obligation is largely canceled.

Within recruitment, we notice that many interviews and introductory meetings still take place online. Platforms such as Zoom and Teams are the most commonly used alternatives. Given the current situation, this is expected to continue. Hopefully the decrease in corona cases will continue, so hopefully in the short term it will be responsible again to have meetings at location. Ultimately, it’s about people and a personal meeting contributes to a better bond.

International recruitment

Despite COVID-19, there are opportunities for international recruitment. The situation makes some aspects more challenging, but not impossible. For example, you must show a negative PCR test that test may not be older than 72 hours. This measure applies to everyone who is 13 years or older. A negative test result is also mandatory for vaccinated persons.

Are you traveling from a high-risk area (color code orange)? Then it is strongly recommended to go into (home) quarantine for 10 days upon arrival in the Netherlands. Are you traveling from a very high-risk area (colour code red)? Then the quarantine is mandatory. If the test result is negative on the fifth day, you can leave the quarantine. See the link for the list of risk countries.

In addition, there are many other formalities that are taking a different turn due to COVID-19, but are not an obstacle to the ultimate goal. For example, in the past two months, four highly skilled migrants have started in The Netherlands, all in accordance with the guidelines in force at the time.
