As a Recruitment Consultant, you are involved daily in finding the right match between candidates and clients. Technical skills and work experience are often the first things you then look at. In addition to these factors, personality and work behavior are also important. To gain a better understanding of these behaviors, Noëmi recently took the Personal Profile Analysis (PPA) course at Thomas International. She talks about her experience during the course.
What is a PPA and why should you take it as a recruitment consultant?
PPA is a DISC-based personality analysis that uses four main behavioral styles: dominance (D), influence (I), stability (S) and conformity(C). Everyone has a unique combination of these behavioral styles. These help determine how you communicate, collaborate and make decisions. During the course, Noëmi learned not only how to understand these behavioral styles, but also how to deploy effective communication by behavioral preference.
What else did Noëmi learn during the PPA course?
One of the most important insights Noëmi took from this course was the realization that everyone has an unique behavioral style. This means that the way a candidate behaves may not always match how they act on the job. In addition, effective communication is essential in a team, especially when working with different types of candidates. For example, someone with a high degree of influence in their profile communicates easily and has no trouble making contacts. On the other hand, long-term repetitive and detailed work can take energy for someone with a high degree of influence. This understanding of different behavioral motivators helps her better tailor communication at different stages of the recruitment process to candidate needs and alignment with the role.
Personal growth
What seemed like a simple course turned out to be an eye-opener that not only enriched her approach as a consultant, but also provided insights on how to examine and better understand her own behaviors. This also gave insight to her own strengths and development points, which helps her become more effective in her role and gain a better understanding of her conversations with candidates and clients. For example, it not only helps to assess whether someone has the right skills, but also whether they fit within the team and company culture.
Conclusion
Behavior and personality play a big role in the success of a placement. The PPA has made Noëmi’s work more effective, efficient and personal. And helped her better understand candidates and employers so she can make the right match.
