In the daily business at TailorMinds, we mainly work with people. Everyone has their own background, perception, contribution etcetera. So many people, so many wishes. A self-mirror can’t hurt. Jan Willem Best of Best Procesadvisering has provided us with this mirror for several years now.
Long-term contact
Jan Willem’s history with TailorMinds goes back further than its founding. The first occasion for an acquaintance with Jan Willem came through a former manager of Arjan’s who recommended Jan Willem. Then, for about two or three years, they met quarterly at various locations around the country for individual coaching sessions.
Over the years, the added and lasting value for both parties were proven each time. After a visit from him, there was always substance for thought and thus valuable perspectives to tackle the next challenges. Incidentally, we use his expertise not only for internal colleagues, external colleagues are also in contact with him. With his STEM background, he is able to interact perfectly with technically oriented colleagues.
TailorMinds collaboration
How does Jan Willem look at the collaboration? Why do I find it inspiring to work with TailorMinds? Because for them as well as for me, it is all about partnership. Partnership is one of the core values that TailorMinds not only shouts, but also really wants to live up to. This applies in full to other core values of TailorMinds such as equality, personal, service and advice. Explicitly expressed values that are an implicit guideline for daily actions. In other words: an ongoing commitment to ‘Walk the talk’. I get to help them do this by occasionally holding up that proverbial ‘self-mirror’ to them. For me, that means nothing more or less than helping them become (more) aware of the effects of their behaviour on others. In doing so, the “self” of that “self-mirror” indicates their own core values. This is the beauty of a true partner relationship – I am sometimes invited to look in my own mirror too … How wonderful is that!’
Last time
Last month, Jan Willem was our guest again to hold the proverbial self-mirror for us. Based on open questions, a bit of vulnerability and a safe conversational environment, the sessions went well. Where for some, the issues may be about a better private-work balance, for others it may be about time management or learning to deal with feedback.
We thank Jan Willem for coming and the self-reflections. On this basis, we will get back to work with new perspectives. See you next time!
