Plans for South Africa

Last Thursday, together with our South African colleague Ernest, we made the first plans for a visit to South Africa to speak to new candidates on location. The preliminary planning is to be in the Port Elizabeth area in November.

South African candidates for the Netherlands

Since a couple of years we have had contact with many South African candidates and some of them have also been contracted. Many of them are/were looking for a combination of (social) security, career opportunities and a new challenge. The Netherlands is an interesting option for the Afrikaans-speaking candidates, as it is very similar to the Dutch language. Also, the cultures are not far apart so that integration in the Netherlands generally goes smoothly.

One point we do always make clear: living standards in the Netherlands are different. Having a luxury car, a holiday home or a large house with a plot of land is not uncommon in South Africa. In the Netherlands, on the other hand, this is also possible but a lot more expensive. The colleagues who eventually come for a better life and realise that immaterial things are worth more than material things, will soon find their happiness here.

The plan

Because we speak many South African candidates, we sat down with Ernest to forge a plan to visit South Africa. The thoughts behind this are a more personal approach and sharing of information. Meeting candidates in person has always been our preference. The connection is better made and a bond of trust for a cooperation is not only based on a contract but also on a personal level.

There are also candidates who are interested in a move to the Netherlands, but are not 100% sure about the move yet. With our visit in November, we would like to make the connections with candidates in South Africa who are open to a future in the Netherlands and fit within our client base.

At the end of August, the official announcement will be made, including a registration option for interested candidates. We ask candidates to send an updated resume with motivation letter so we can make a selection of the most promising and/or interesting candidates for TailorMinds.
