How to write a convincing CV?

As a recruitment organisation, we receive many different CVs every week, some more detailed than others. A convincing CV can make all the difference when applying for a job. We would like to share essential tips for creating a CV that stands out.

Provide a clear structure

A clear structure in your CV is important. Start with your contact and personal details, followed by a summary or profile sketch in which you introduce yourself and highlight your key skills and experiences. Then divide your work experience, education, skills and any other relevant sections into separate sections.

Highlight your achievements

Instead of listing tasks and responsibilities, focus on the results you have achieved in previous jobs. Give concrete examples of projects you have participated in, goals you have achieved or support your achievements with measurable examples.

Match your CV to the vacancy

Match your CV to the specific requirements of the position you are applying for. Emphasise the skills you have gained in previous positions. This shows that you have taken the time and effort to go through the job profile thoroughly and are therefore a serious candidate.

Highlight your skills

Create a separate section for your skills and name both technical and personal skills relevant to the job. Be specific, for example naming MS Office in your computer skills. This will help you back up your skills.

Final additional tips

Update your CV regularly and add your new experiences and skills. Remember not to make your CV too long, no more than three pages. And check spelling or grammar mistakes. Remember to take the time to read through your CV carefully, use spell check tools to spot any errors.
