Mike

Mike is on his way to The Netherlands

In the beginning of March, we are expecting a new Zimbabwean colleague from South Africa: Mike. We got to know him during our visit to South Africa last November. Shortly after, he went for an interview with one of our relations with a positive result: he will start in March as a Project Engineer HVAC.

Interview in Cape Town

Last summer we announced our visit to Port Elizabeth which resulted in about 120 applications for an interview. One of the applicants was Mike. Based on his experience as a Project HVAC Engineer in the pharmaceutical industry, we immediately saw the relevant work experience for our projects. However, we noticed that he was not in Port Elizabeth, but in Cape Town. About 750km away. How about that?

As it turned out, Mike was willing to travel the distance to Port Elizabeth to meet us. Since our trip had a layover in Cape Town, we met at the Cape Town airport in the interest of efficiency. On the spot, we discussed opportunities through TailorMinds in which he expressed his interest. Then we starting looking at a suitable position for him.

Suitable application

Once back in the Netherlands, a position became available for a Project Engineer HVAC due to a candidate withdrawing. Based on experience, background and motivation, Mike had been suggested for this where he received an invitation for an interview in mid-December fairly quickly.

Mike was enthusiastic about the position and was therefore very curious about the feedback from the relationship. However, feedback can sometimes take longer during vacations. Mike therefore had to be patient, but this patience was rewarded: he was selected for the position!

Preparation for him and his family

This meant that we could start procedures for him and his family. Currently, contracts have been signed, visa applications have been submitted and the search for suitable housing has begun. Housing is going to be an important factor. Not only because of his commuting distance but also because of finding a suitable school for the children.

We are going to face the process together and we will guide the family through all the processes. Once we arrive, we expect to have most of the formalities completed so that a good start in his new job is a reality. We look forward to meeting again soon at an airport, however this time a Dutch airport.
